NEW YORK – Friday marks new ground for the Orioles. It’s their first fifth game in a Division Series, and it’s the first deciding game in a multi-game playoff series since 1979.
Last week, the Orioles won the first-ever American League Wild Card Game—the first time they’d ever played in a one-game playoff.
The Orioles played in Division Series in 1996 and 1997, and won both in four games.
They lost the American League Championship Series in five games to the Yankees in 1996 and in six to Cleveland in 1997.
In 1983, many years before the start of three-round playoffs, they won the ALCS in four games and the World Series in five.
The last time they played an ultimate game in a multi-game series was in 1979 when they lost the World Series in seven games to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
