Zach Britton and Brian Matusz are the only two Orioles eligible for arbitration who did not reach agreement on a new contract before Friday’s deadline. Both have filed for arbitration.
Britton, who saved 73 games in the last two seasons, and made $3.2 million in 2015, has asked for $7.9 million. The Orioles have countered with $5.6 million.
Matusz made $3.2 million a year ago, and has asked for $4.4 million. The Orioles have offered him $3.5 million.
Arbitration hearings begin Feb. 1, and if there is not an agreement on a new contract by then, a hearing will be held.
It is likely that both cases will be settled before a hearing.
