He last worked on Sunday, and even though rookie right-hander Steve Johnson is also rested, Showalter admitted to some concerns about Johnsons left knee.Joes rested. Hes ready to go, Showalter said. Hes pitched some in the playoffs. Its a huge opportunity, Saunders said. He said that Showalter told him of the assignment just a few minutes before he spoke about it on Thursday afternoon. Its been an amazing experience, coming over to a great organization, Saunders said. Im going to embrace it and not change anything. The 31-year-old Saunders was acquired by the Orioles on Aug. 26 from Arizona. Hes 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA in seven starts since the trade.Hes not afraid of pitching here despite his record.I can imagine. I dont care. Tomorrows a new day, Saunders said. Obviously, the Rangers have a pretty potent lineup. If I can keep us in the ballgame, give us a chance to win, I think well be just fine.Showalter is fully aware that Saunders stats in Arlington arent very good.If youre looking for pitchers with good numbers against the Texas Rangers, theyre hard to find, Showalter said.He has a tough task ahead of him.
