Showalter insists he doesn't want to see gnome

BALTIMORE –- In March, Buck Showalter vowed there wasn’t going to be a Garden Gnome giveaway modeled after him.

“No, we’re not going to do that,” he vowed. A moment later he amended his reasoning, “I can be bought,” he joked.

Garden Gnome night is less than a month away. On June 27, the first 25,000 fans 15 and over will receive the mini-manager.

The Orioles revealed the image this week, and on Thursday morning, Showalter insisted he didn’t want to see it.

“I haven’t seen it. I will not see it. I asked them not to do it, and they did it anyway,” Showalter said. “I said, ‘why did you ask me if you’re going to do it anyway?’”

Despite his protestations, Showalter keeps a gnome modeled after Norfolk manager Ron Johnson on his desk

The event is expected to be very popular.
