Theres always something different to watch in preseason games. Thursdays game with the Jaguars will give fans the most to look at, in terms of starters, since theyll play more than the first two.
To that end, heres a few things that my eyes will be watching for during the game.
1 The pass rush Thats been an already issue of some concern this summer. The pass rush clearly hasnt proven quite as effective as last year. As mentioned several times before, the Ravens know theyve got some holes to fill there, mainly because of the injury to Terrell Suggs and the loss of other players to free agency. And they certainly are not going to show all of their cards in a meaningless pre-season game. But they didnt get a sack last week against the Lions and werent able to get great pressure versus the Falcons. It will be interesting to see what they try to do in this contest.
2. The no-huddleWill the Ravens start looking like the Colts have in the past few years? The no-huddles done pretty well so far, and quarterback Joe Flacco seems to like it. How much are the Ravens going to use it in this game? Again, theyre not going to tip their hand too much, but its going to be interesting to see what they do with the no-huddle.
3. Pass coverageCan they do better than theyve done before? The Jaguars certainly arent the Lions and dont have any wide receivers like Calvin Johnson. But the Ravens can do better on pass coverage if they feature a better pass rush. The two things are intertwined, and the Ravens are still looking for success in both. The secondary has had some rough moments so far in the first two games.
