Will Ravens target Smith more?

Torrey Smith has caught two long passes so far this season, one in each Ravens game. But those two receptions are half of his total catches for the year, and Joe Flacco has thrown at him only eight times in two games, according to baltimoreravens.com.

But everything is cool, Smith said.

Im not panicking at all, Smith told the team website. I havent had the ball thrown too many times my way. Its not that Im not getting open or Joes not looking for me. Its just the progression at times. Well get there.

Part of getting there will be on his shoulders working his way clear of the extra attention hes drawing from secondaries that have noted how his speed can break a game open.

You have to try to get open regardless if theres 20 people on you or one, Smith said. My job is to go out there and try to get open, and Im working on it.

His job also is to draw the defenses attention, stretching the field. So if he doesnt rack up big numbers against the Patriots on Sunday night but Flacco finds Anquan Boldin, Dennis Pitta or Ed Dickson allowed to wander free in the middle because two defensive backs are occupied by Smith, that will work, too.
