The hamstring injury to Bills running back LeSean McCoy has triggered another round of Ray Rice rumors. Will the Bills sign Rice, the ex-Ravens running back who is seeking a second chance following his domestic violence incident? According to Mike Garafalo of FoxSports1, the Bills have begun internal discussions about whether signing Rice is something they should do.
Having discussions about Rice is one thing. Actually signing him is another. The latest reports indicate that McCoy might be return by Week 1, or at least in September. That means Bills may decide they can get by without Rice until McCoy returns, although backup running back Fred Jackson is also dealing with a hamstring issue.
Bills head coach Rex Ryan knows Rice well, from their days together with the Ravens when Ryan was an assistant coach. If Rice is going to get a second chance, it may have to come from someone who knows him, like Ryan. It will be interesting to see if Ryan confirms that signing Rice is an option the Bills are willing to explore.
