SAN FRANCISCO—Darren O’Day has been placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Friday with a right shoulder rotator cuff strain.

O’Day felt the injury on Thursday during the eighth inning in Oakland and flew to Baltimore on Friday for an examination with team orthopedist Dr. Michael Jacobs.

Right-handed pitcher Tyler Wilson has been recalled from Norfolk to take O’Day’s place on the roster.

O’Day, who is 3-1 with a 3.95 ERA in 30 games, missed seven weeks with a strained right hamstring. He returned on July 24 and had five scoreless outings, but in two of his last three has retired just one batter while retiring five runs on four hits.

He re-signed with the Orioles last December, agreeing to a four-year, $31 million contract.
