BALTIMORE – For the last several years, the Orioles have held a second chance camp in Sarasota, Fla. each September. It’s not called that, of course, but in case there are injuries to players on the Orioles roster, there will be players who are available.
In past years, the Orioles have plucked players from Sarasota. In 2012, they had Zach Britton and Dylan Bundy there, and when they ran short of pitching, they promoted them.
Some of the players who could be going to Sarasota are pitchers Pedro Beato, Parker Bridwell, Kyle Lobstein and T.J. McFarland, catchers Audry Perez and Chance Sisco, first baseman Trey Mancini and outfielders Dariel Alvarez and Christian Walker, all from Norfolk.
Bowie outfielders Julio Borbon and Chris Dickerson are also being sent to the camp, manager Buck Showalter said.
NOTE: Showalter won his 1,414th game on Saturday night. He’s now 25th on the all-time wins list for managers.
