BALTIMORE – Joe Flacco had a few choice words Monday night for rookie linebacker Kamalei Correa, who was wise enough to listen.
Their on-the-field meeting happened after Correa gave a hard hit to wide receiver Mike Wallace during practice.
There had already been several skirmishes, and Flacco felt Correa had crossed the line.
Flacco ran up to Correa and challenged him. Correa didn’t move. So Flacco walked away, but his message was delivered.
“Listen, I’m protected, I can say whatever I want to him, because I got a big army coming behind me.” Flacco said.
“It wasn’t nice. But like I said, I really didn’t have to be scared. I got a big army playing behind me. He was too smart. I challenged him, to see if he was willing to come after me a little bit, and he made the right decision.”
What did Correa think when the franchise quarterback got in his face?
“He’s our quarterback,” Correa said. “He’s the leader. I can’t say anything. He’s Joe Flacco. Hey man, I can’t say anything. I just do my job and hang with my linebackers and do what I got to do.”
Correa is winning points with his teammates for his aggressive play, but they want him to save his most physical moments for opponents.
Flacco wanted to make sure Correa understood.
