TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Tampa Bay's resilience will be tested as the Buccaneers strive to rebound from the team's first loss in a month and remain in playoff contention.
Sunday's one-point loss to the Atlanta Falcons stopped a four-game winning streak, but was not nearly as costly as it could been because three other clubs pursuing what would be the second NFC wild-card position also hurt themselves with losses over the weekend.
Tampa Bay (6-5) remains tied with Seattle and Minnesota, one game ahead of New Orleans, Dallas and Washington, all at 5-6. If the playoffs started this week, the Seahawks would be the second wild card because of a better conference record.
After lifting the Stanley Cup just over two months ago, something else very exciting has happened in Alex Ovechkin's life.
Saturday morning, Nastya and Alex Ovechkin welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Sergei, after Ovechkin's late brother.
Ovi spent this week practicing at the Florida Panthers' facilities with other NHL players living in the surrounding area.
After the Cup's visit to Moscow, Nastya and Alex settled down at their apartment in Miami, staying put and preparing for the birth.
The couple were married two years ago but didn't hold an official ceremony until July of last year. The celebration was as lavish as you'd expect.
She revealed her pregnancy shortly after the Cup victory, and has kept us up to date on life this summer via Instagram. A few weeks ago, the Ovechkins graced HELLO! Russia magazine, showing off Nastya's baby bump among their glamour shots.
Congratulations to Ovi and Nastya, and all our best wishes for health and happiness!
MORE CAPITALS NEWS:
Washington Mystics guard Natasha Cloud burst onto Friday night's sports scene converting a floater that beat the buzzer lifting her team past the Los Angeles Sparks, 69-67.
The win came during the team's regular-season finale at Capital One Arena and assured head coach Mike Thibault's squad a third-place finish or better. In order to lock up second place, the Mystics have to win Sunday and need Atlanta (22-11) to lose to Las Vegas.
The Mystics play one more game before playoffs Sunday in Minneapolis against the Lynx at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN 2.
Cloud is a big reason why the Mystics have won eight straight games to tie a franchise record for wins in a season.
"This is a championship team. This is a championship team and we're about to speak it into existence," Cloud told Christy Winters-Scott and Frank Hanrahan on Monumental Sports Network.
