The Capitals 2021-22 regular season schedule was officially released on Thursday as the NHL continues heading towards what it hopes will be a normal season.
Washington will play 82 games with its first game slated for Oct. 13. The schedule includes both a break for the All-Star Game on Feb. 4-5 in Las Vegas and an Olympic break immediately following, though the issue of Olympic participation has not yet been finalized. That means the Caps do not have any games on the schedule in between their games on Feb. 2 and Feb. 24. If the league ultimately does not participate, the regular season will be revised.
Gone is the division-only format from last season as the Caps will play each team in the league. Also gone is the two-game series format from last season that was popular among the players.
Here are some of the notable dates from the Caps' schedule for you to circle in your calendar.
Oct. 13 vs. New York Rangers, season opener.
Oct. 16 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning, first game against the two-time defending Cup champs.
Nov. 6 vs. Philadelphia, first game against the Flyers.
Nov. 14 vs. Pittsburgh, first game against Penguins.
Nov. 21 at Seattle, first game against the Kraken in their inaugural season.
Jan. 10 vs. Boston, first game against the Bruins after Boston eliminated the Caps in the 2021 postseason.
March 5 vs. Seattle, the Kraken's first visit to Capital One Arena.
April 29 at Rangers, Caps finish the season against the same opponent in which they opened.
