Ovechkin misses practice with lower-body injury

Alex Ovechkin did not practice on Tuesday and was given what is being called a maintenance day by the team. He is dealing with a lower-body issue.

The Capitals last played on Saturday and do not play again until Thursday. That break in the schedule appears to be coming at a good time allowing Ovechkin some extra time off.

Ovechkin left Saturday's game against the New York Rangers briefly in the second period. Head coach Peter Laviolette indicated Ovechkin's absence on Monday was not a sign of any serious injury.

"I think it's more just maintenance than anything," Laviolette said.

In addition to Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie was absent from practice as well for personal reasons. Laviolette said of Lars Eller, who suffered a lower-body injury in a game on March 13, that he currently has no clarity on his situation for Thursday's game.

Washington also announced that Garrett Pilon and Mike Sgarbossa had been recalled from Hershey and placed on the taxi squad. They are the leading scorers in Hershey with 16 and 10 points respectively.
