Capitals defenseman John Carlson has been named one of the NHL's 'Three Stars' of the Week ending April 10, the league announced on Monday.
Carlson was named the "Second Star,' with Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews earning the 'First Star' nod and Panthers left wing Jonathan Huberdeau earning the third and final star.
The honor for Carlson comes after he posted a total of eight points for the Capitals over the past three games -- all Washington victories.
Carlson's best performance of the week came on Wednesday when he recorded four points -- a pair of goals and a pair of assists -- in the Capitals' 4-3 victory over Tampa Bay. Carlson's second goal was also the game-winner in that contest.
On Saturday, Carlson notched a pair of assists as the Capitals scored four unanswered goals against Pittsburgh in a 6-3 victory.
Then on Sunday, Carlson notched another pair of points, one goal and one assist, in Washington's 4-2 victory over Boston. It was his 15th multi-point game of the 2021-22 season.
With 10 games to go in the regular season, Carlson has 63 points (14 goals, 49 assists). He is close to reaching the 70-point mark for the third time in the past four seasons and is one goal shy of matching his career high (15) set in 2017-18 and again in 2019-20.Â
