The Capitals will take the ice for warmups before Thursday’s game against the Boston Bruins with rainbow-colored tape on their sticks as the team celebrates Pride Night at Capital One Arena.
For the fifth-consecutive year, the Capitals are celebrating the LGBTQ community by hosting Pride Night at their arena. The team has also organized an auction of autographed Pride-themed Capitals memorabilia, including signed sticks, pucks and a jersey. There is even a rainbow tie signed by NBC Sports Washington commentators Craig Laughlin, Alan May, Joe Beninati and Al Koken.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit the nonprofit organization SMYAL (Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders), which works to empower lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youths aged 6-24 in the greater D.C. area. Last year, the Capitals’ auction raised $14,645 for SMYAL.
