Nicolas Aube-Kubel is back in Washington for at least one more season.

The 26-year-old winger signed a one-year extension with the Capitals, the team announced on Friday. Aube-Kubel will earn $1.225 million on his new deal.

Washington originally claimed Aube-Kubel off waivers in November when he was released by the Toronto Maple Leafs after going scoreless in his first six games. In 30 games with the Capitals, Aube-Kubel has totaled eight points (two goals, six assists). The Canadian's one-year extension will give him a lengthy chance to earn a spot on the Capitals' roster moving forward.

Amidst a busy deadline that's seen Washington trade five different players, Aube-Kubel is the second player the Capitals have re-signed in just a matter of days. Defenseman Nick Jensen inked a three-year deal to remain in Washington on Wednesday.
