The Washington Capitals will visit the White House nearly 10 months after winning the Stanley Cup in Vegas, sources have confirmed to NBC Sports Washington.

Two players on the championship team had spoken out about visiting the White House under the current administration.

Devante Smith-Pelly, sent down on waivers in February, is no longer in the Capitals system. Smith-Pelly previously called President Trump's remarks as "straight up racist and sexist."

Brett Connolly also said prior to this season that he would not attend because "it is not the right thing to do."
