If you were going to make a list of the Caps' top prospects at the start of the season, chances are Jakub Vrana, Chandler Stephenson, Madison Bowey and Christian Djoos would have been on it. Now all four players are in the NHL.
The Caps have been forced to dip into their prospect pool much more than in recent years which begs the question, who is left? With so many players up contributing in the NHL, who are the team's prospects of the future?
The key word there is "future."
As deep as the Caps' team was in recent years, most of the top prospects were players just on the edge of being ready to make the jump to the NHL. On thinner teams, they probably would have been playing, but on the Caps, they had to stay in the AHL. Now most of those players are in Washington.
The Caps' prospect pool has now shifted from being made up of several players knocking on the door of the NHL, to players with bright futures who need time to develop.
