Watch Miles Wood and Alex Ovechkin go at it in the video player above!
The Capitals' 6-0 shutout loss to the Devils Thursday night was one to forget for Washington. But for New Jersey forward Miles Wood, it'll be a game he never forgets.
In the first period, a brawl broke out between the two teams. During the scuffle, Wood got tangled up with Alex Ovechkin, the Caps superstar at one point trying to tear off Wood's jersey.
Wood and Ovechkin have a bit of history, but not exactly what you might think.
As a kid, Wood grew up idolizing Ovechkin, and when he was 11 he sent an ominous fan letter to his hero containing a hockey card.
According to Wood's father, the letter said: “If you don’t sign this and send it back to me, when I make it to the NHL, I’m going to give you a big body check.”
Ovechkin never did sign the card, but when Wood and the Devils faced off with the Caps during Wood's rookie season in 2016, Ovechkin gave the former fanboy an autographed photo.
Well worth the wait for @MilesWood28! He's leaving D.C with two points and an @ovi8 autographed picture. pic.twitter.com/OQIuHLDqxB

And two years later, Wood made good on his vow to physically assault Ovechkin for not sending his card back. Was the photo not good enough or something?
