Kuznetsov's status for Sunday uncertain after late injury

Evgeny Kuznetsov was a late scratch on Saturday and his status for Sunday's rematch between the Capitals and New Jersey Devils remains uncertain.

Kuznetsov's surprise scratch was due to an upper-body injury and he has been labeled as day-to-day. T.J. Oshie moved from wing to center in Kuznetsov's place.

Following Saturday's game, head coach Peter Laviolette said Kuznetsov's absence was not due to any lingering injury concern.

"That was a last-minute change," Laviolette said. "That happened late."

After the Capitals' 5-2 win on Saturday, the team is back in action against the Devils again on Sunday (3 p.m., NBC Sports Washington), but it is unclear if Kuznetsov will be available.

"Honestly, I have no idea," Laviolette said. "I haven't talked to anybody yet. I just finished a game. We'll sort things out this afternoon. It's way too early for me to even say."
