NHL players are finding exciting ways to lighten the mood during a time of uncertainty.
While some have joined in on the TikTok frenzy, others have enjoyed more time with family, which often includes a pet.
Capitals forward Tom Wilson and his girlfriend Taylor Pischke adopted a black lab mixed name Halle two weeks before the NHL’s coronavirus shutdown. In a story published by ESPN on Wednesday, Wilson said the quarantine transition hasn’t been very easy for the new stay-at-home parents or Halle.
Wilson and Pischke, who is a professional beach volleyball player, typically have busy schedules, but spending more time at home means they have been trying to find a balance in spending time with Halle and putting her in her crate so that she doesn’t get too attached.
Wilson says that the toughest part about social distancing is that Halle has not been able to make other furry friends.
"It's time for her to be at the park and meeting other dogs, so that sucks for her a little bit," Wilson said. "We have the Dowds [teammate Nic Dowd and his wife, Paige] come over with their golden in the backyard and we let them play. So it's good she realizes there's other furry animals out there, it's not just me and Taylor."
Last week, the Capitals announced they're selling bobbleheads featuring Wilson and his foster pup Halle. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, the foster home that Halle was adopted from.
