Capitals

Saturday had the chance to be a special night at home for the Washington Capitals. Facing off against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Capitals had a chance to pick up a win against their rivals while Alex Ovechkin sat two goals away from 700.

Instead, everything went wrong. Washington played potentially its worst game of the season, falling 7-2. Ovechkin was also held scoreless. Overall, it was about as bad as things could have gone.

So come Monday, the Capitals will have a chance to right the wrongs against the New York Islanders. With a win, and potentially a little history from Ovechkin, Saturday can be forgotten.

CAPITALS vs. ISLANDERS PLAYERS TO WATCH

Alex Ovechkin, LW, Capitals (40-17-57): Until Ovi records his 700th goal, and even after that, he's the guy to watch for Washington. His scoring can happen in an instant too. Take Thursday's win against the Kings as an example, where Ovechkin scored a natural hat trick in about six minutes in the third period. Blink and you could miss history.

Mathew Barzal, C, Islanders (18-26-44): Barzal is an offensive force the leads the Islanders. With the Capitals coming off a poor showing in net on Saturday, the center could get plenty of opportunities to add to his goal total. In addition, Barzal has a knack for getting his teammates involved on the ice and setting up scoring chances for others.
