How to watch Capitals at Columbus Blue Jackets

Capitals

The Washington Capitals looked to be in the dumps when they commenced November, losing their first three contests. They seem to be back in the swing of things over their last two games, though, defeating the Sabres and Red Wings while outscoring their opponents 7-3.

Zach Fucale was the undisputed star of Washington's road victory in the Motor City on Thursday, becoming the first goaltender in Capitals history to record a shutout in his NHL debut as the Caps walked away 2-0 victors over the Detroit Red Wings.

This Friday, Washington ventures to Ohio to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus is well-rested after winning their second consecutive game against the Avalanche last Saturday. Six days later, they'll look for their fourth straight win against the Caps.

Two Eastern Conference teams look to make up ground in the standings in a primetime Friday matchup. Here's everything you need to know.

CAPITALS VS. BLUE JACKETS WHAT TO WATCH

Washington's power play has struggled mightily in 2021 so far. They have scored on just 18.6% of their man-advantages on the season, good enough for 20th in the league. Columbus isn't much hotter, with a success rate of 21.4% at 14th in the NHL. Special teams will be a point of emphasis for both squads on Friday, so keep an eye on power play strategy.

Washington takes on Columbus on Friday, returns home for one game against the Penguins, then hits the road once again for a four-game road trip that will span just six days. Points are a hot commodity for teams with schedules this tough, so the guys in red would love to walk out of Ohio with two of them.

CAPITALS VS. BLUE JACKETS PLAYERS TO WATCH

Evgeny Kuznetsov, C, Capitals (13 games, 5 goals, 12 assists, 17points): Kuznetsov remains one of the hottest players in the NHL notching an assist on Dmitry Orlov's game-opening goal against the Red Wings. Kuzy has four apples in his last two games, so he will again be a point of emphasis on Washington's offense vs. Columbus.

Oliver Bjorkstrand, RW, Blue Jackets (10 games, 5 goals, 8 assists, 13 points): Bjorkstrand skyrocketed to the team lead in points on the season after posting one goal and two assists in Columbus' two straight games against Colorado. The 26-year-old winger facilitates the Blue Jackets' second line and their power play unit, so you will hear his name called a lot on Friday night.
