Carlson, Oshie move up Caps’ playoff leaderboard in Game 4

Capitals
T.J. Oshie and John Carlson

After taking a 2-1 series lead with a dominant performance against the Florida Panthers on Saturday, the Capitals carried over their momentum into Game 4 on Monday with an early first-period goal.

John Carlson fired a shot from the high slot that deflected off T.J. Oshie’s shin and bounced past Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to put Washington up 1-0 on a power play.

Both Carlson and Oshie have had a busy first-round series and the goal moved each of them up the Capitals’ all-time playoff leaderboards.

Carlson’s assist marked the 72nd point of his Stanley Cup playoff career, tying the defenseman with former center Dale Hunter for the third-most in franchise history. Meanwhile, Oshie moved past Hunter with his 26th playoff goal for sole possession of fifth place.

The Capitals are hoping to pull off a massive first-round upset over the Presidents’ Trophy winners. With Carlson (one goal, two assists over first three games) and Oshie (two goals) leading the way, it was only a matter of time before the Capitals’ veterans started making some history.

All first-round games of Capitals vs. Panthers will be available regionally on NBC Sports Washington and streamed live on the MyTeams app.
