Kane was fined $5,000, which is the maximum fine under the current collective bargaining agreement. The hit in question came toward the end of the third period of the Capitals' 5-2 win over the Sharks.
Kane raised his elbow and took a shot right at the face of Gudas, a hit that was angled away from even being a play for the puck.
