Nic Dowd missed the Capitals' 4-3 loss to the Islanders Tuesday to be with his wife Paige while she delivered their first child. On Wednesday Paige posted pictures of the happy family.

It appears Dowd wasn't expecting his newborn to come for another month, which would explain his surprise inclusion on the team's inactive list before Tuesday's game.

The Capitals could definitely have used him against New York as they dropped their first set of consecutive games this season, but it's great to see everything went well with his new baby.

Congratulations to the Dowd family. Caps fans will surely be happy to get Louie's dad back on the ice.
