As the NHL continues to gear up for a return, Caps fans were blessed with a beautiful image on Saturday. For the first time in months, Alex Ovechkin returned to the ice at the Capitals practice facility.
Since the Capitals moved to Phase 2 a few weeks back, players have slowly been returning MedStar Capitals Iceplex to get readjusted before the season eventually resumes at the end of July. Ovechkin is now the latest, and more could soon follow as the NHL will reportedly expand the limit of players allowed on the ice to 12.
Additionally, Phase 3 of the return plan which involves training camp for the teams, is set to begin around July 10. The work is all leading up to the return of the 2019-20 season for an expanded postseason.
Though things are moving along for the Capitals and others in the NHL, there are still obstacles ahead. As players begin to report and the coronavirus pandemic continues to be present throughout the country, positive tests are beginning to show up around the league.
