The NHL is in Las Vegas for All-Star festivities, and the best players from around the league met with the media on Friday to discuss the weekend ahead.
Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson are representing the Washington Capitals this weekend, and some of their fellow players had plenty to say regarding the two.
New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes will be on the same team representing the Metropolitan Division as the Capitals pair shared that he's eager to play alongside Wilson.
“I know he’s a late add, but it would be fun to get to know him and play with him. I’m pretty excited about that,” Hughes said.
Meanwhile, Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews said he wants to get to know Kuznetsov a little more despite being on opposing teams as Matthews will represent the Atlantic Division.
“I am really excited to meet and kind of get to know Kuznetsov. I remember watching him at the World Juniors,” Matthews said.
“He was a lot of fun to watch then, and ever since he’s been in the NHL, he’s just sneaky guy that does a lot of really impressive things out there. He’s fun to watch, and I heard he’s a pretty big stick guy, so I am excited to maybe chat sticks with him too.”
While Hughes and Matthews are excited to play with the Capitals duo, Minnesota Wild left winger Kirill Kaprizov shared a fun story regarding how his 11-year-old cat is named after Kuznetsov.
After watching the Capitals forward win gold with Russia at the 2011 World Juniors, Kaprizov decided to honor that achievement by naming the family cat after Kuznetsov.
“I really loved the way Kuzy played, so we were trying to think of a name for the cat, and I just said, ‘Let’s go with Kuzy,’” Kaprizov said.
For those wondering, Kuzy the cat lives with Kaprizov’s family in Russia and not in Minnesota with the Wild forward.
