Wizards rookie Admiral Schofield modeled his game after Carmelo Anthony

Wizards rookie Admiral Schofield modeled his game after Carmelo Anthony

When the news broke that Carmelo Anthony signed a contract with the Trail Blazers and was coming back to the NBA, a ton of players made their excitement known.

Isaiah Thomas and Jordan McRae were the Wizards who were clearly pumped about the move, while LeBron James and Dwyane Wade chimed in as well.

On a podcast with Brian Scalabrine, Wizards rookie Admiral Schofield explained how excited he was that Anthony was back and that he modeled some of his game after the 10-time All-Star.

"Honestly I modeled my mid-post game after [Carmelo] ever since I was in middle school," Schofield said. "I mean, Melo's Melo. Everyone loves Melo because of how he played the game and his flavor and the style he brought to the game and to see him get a deal is just great; he deserves to be in this league."

Anthony may not appeal to many NBA executives as a valuable asset to their team, but his popularity amongst current and former players is undeniable.

With the Blazers struggling to play up to expectations now that Zach Collins and Jusuf Nurkic are out for extended time, Anthony might be the boost Portland needs to get back on track.

However, the Blazers don't typically have problems scoring with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum running the show. It's their defense that needs the most help right now and Anthony is certainly not going to provide any assistance there.

The Blazers will be in town to play the Wizards on January 3, so fans can get perhaps a last look at Anthony on the court unless this Portland stint goes incredibly well.

Take a look at the Nationals’ new Nike jerseys

Take a look at the Nationals’ new Nike jerseys

Fans who visited the Nationals’ team store were greeted with some new merchandise Friday, when the team’s first official Nike jersey and a new alternate hat were made available.

Jerseys for specific players aren’t yet on sale, so it’s unknown whether the Nationals will feature the players’ numbers underneath the script lettering like they did on their Majestic jerseys. The website calls these white fits their “alternate 2020 authentic team jersey,” so they appear to at least be in the rotation of team gear being worn next season.

The team also released a new hat with the Senators’ W behind a pitcher throwing. This comes a year after Washington created a Spring Training hat that used the same W in front of an outline of the U.S. Capitol building.

Now about those lucky blue alternates finally going on sale…
