XFL suspends 2020 season due to growing coronavirus concerns, players still will be paid

DC Defenders

The XFL has become the latest professional sports league to halt operation due to growing concern about the coronavirus outbreak.

The league issued a statement Thursday evening that said the league will not play its remaining regular-season games at this time. However, players will still be compensated by getting their base pay and benefits for the 2020 season.

Additionally, all season ticket holders will either be refunded or credited for future XFL games.

As a startup league, many wondered whether the XFL would last longer than its inaugural season. But in the league's statement, the XFL is "committed to playing a full season in 2021 and future years."

While the XFL may be on hold for now, the league sounds determined to resume play next season.
