D.C. United haven't lost a match in almost a month. Their recent tear has placed them at sixth in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, good enough for a playoff spot if the regular season ended today. However, a daunting matchup with Nashville SC, who sit atop the Black and Red at fifth in the East, is on the horizon.
Most recently, D.C. United is coming off two straight wins in the month of August vs. Montreal and Columbus. Hernán Losada's squad is humming as the season draws on, but a matchup with Nashville could mean the difference between hovering at No. 6 in the conference and skyrocketing up the standings to a potential No. 2 spot.
Nashville is hungry for a win as well, coming off a 2-1 loss vs. Miami earlier this week. With a chance for the Black and Red to make it six games unbeaten, here's everything you need to know about their match vs. Nashville.

D.C. United vs. Nashville: WHAT TO WATCH
Losada and D.C. United have been successful in their last half-dozen games, but that doesn't mean that each result was comfortable. They were narrowly able to escape their match vs. Montreal with three points after conceding a goal in the 16th minute. Getting off to a better start will be crucial against a Nashville squad that hasn't lost a single game at home all season (one of only three teams in Major League Soccer with such an accomplishment).
The Black and Red will travel to Gillette Stadium three days after their bout vs. Nashville to take on the league-best New England Revolution. Nabbing points in Tennessee is critical for D.C. United to retain their spot in playoff contention.
Nashville SC, meanwhile, will be looking for their first win in four matches. Contrary to D.C. United's last game, Nashville's loss to Miami came as they squandered a 1-0 lead. Miami's Gonzalo Higuain scored a backbreaking game-winner in the 95th minute to send Nashville packing. They will be motivated to nab three points at home on Sunday.
D.C. United vs. Nashville SC: PLAYERS TO WATCH
Ola Kamara, Forward, D.C. United (10 goals, 2 assists in 12 appearances in 2021): Aside from a 0-0 draw vs. Cincinnati, Kamara has scored in five of D.C. United's last six games dating back to mid-July. He's far and away the team's best scorer with 10 goals, as the No. 2 on that list only has two tallies on the season. He will need to be effective for D.C. to walk out of Nashville with three points.
C.J. Sapong, Forward, Nashville SC (6 goals, 3 assists in 18 appearances in 2021): Sapong was the lone goalscorer for Nashville in their loss to Miami, slotting in a terrific header off a corner kick. As the team's second-leading scorer, they'll look to him to spark the offense as they try to stay unbeaten on home soil.
