After trading Sam Darnold to Carolina, the Jets are clearly taking a quarterback with the No. 2 selection. That pick is likely to be BYU's Zach Wilson, who has established himself as the QB2 in this draft.

Wilson's stock has risen fast this season - much like Joe Burrow's from a year ago. His potential is through the roof and the Jets bank on that with this choice.

Ever since the 49ers moved up nine spots from No. 12 to No. 3 in a trade with the Dolphins, Alabama QB Mac Jones has been the name many have pegged Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch to select here.

While it might be hard to fathom passing up on Trey Lance or Justin Fields here, Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch don't care. If they like Jones the best, he will be the pick. And with the draft just days away, that's what it sounds like.

The Falcons hold one of the most intriguing pick of the first round. They could either draft a QB here as Matt Ryan's successor, trade back in the draft, or have the first choice of a non-QB prospect.

The third option is the direction I believe the Falcons will take, with Florida tight end Kyle Pitts being the pick. Pitts was one of the best offensive players in all of college football. Now, he's considered to be one of the best prospects at tight end in recent memory.

The Dolphins get Tua Tagovailoa a much-needed WR1 here by taking Ja'Marr Chase, who many believe is the top wideout in the 2021 class.

The LSU product won the Biletnikoff Award in 2019, given to the nation's best receiver, and likely would have been the top pass-catcher off the board in 2020 had he been draft eligible. He's a perfect fit in Miami.

The first blockbuster move of draft night comes here, as Denver moves up two slots to jump Carolina and select Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. Denver, who just traded for Teddy Bridgewater on Wednesday, knows that neither he nor Drew Lock is the answer long-term. New GM George Paton makes a huge move here to select Fields, who might have gone to Carolina had he fallen any further. And, Detroit gets great compensation (which will hit on two picks later).

TRADE! New England receives pick No. 8; Carolina receives pick No. 15, 2022 first-round pick, 2023 second-round pick

After seeing four quarterbacks come off the board in the first seven picks, Bill Belichick realizes he no longer can wait to find his QB of the future. So, New England strikes a deal with Carolina to move up seven spots and select North Dakota State QB Trey Lance, who can sit behind Cam Newton for a year before becoming the team's starter in 2022.

Lance is one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft. The 20-year-old had one of the best seasons in FCS history in 2019 before playing just one game this past season due to the pandemic. How that will impact him is yet to be seen.

The Lions have been open to moving back in the draft. And, with Denver willing to part with an additional first and QB Drew Lock (who can serve as Jared Goff's backup and potential future franchise QB) in order to move up, Detroit does this deal in a heartbeat and selects Alabama star Jaylen Waddle here.

Waddle was putting himself into consideration for being the No. 1 wide receiver taken in the draft before a leg injury sidelined him for the bulk of the 2020 season. Now fully healthy, he'll have the chance to become Detroit's WR1 as a rookie.

The Cowboys' secondary was atrocious last season, to put it mildly. Besides Trevon Diggs, the whole unit could use an overhaul.

Patrick Surtain is an incredible talent with All-Pro potential and should fit right in as a Day 1 starter for Dallas' defense. And, he'll reunite with Diggs, his former teammate with the Tide.

The Giants could easily go wide receiver here. But, with a need at linebacker and the talented Micah Parsons still available, they take the Penn State product at No. 11.

Parsons is a do-it-all linebacker who can play from sideline to sideline. Having a talent at linebacker is rare in today's NFL, something the Giants can't pass up here.

DeVonta Smith weighed in at 166 pounds at the Combine, a number that is certainly scaring teams in the top 10 of the 2021 draft from picking the reigning Heisman winner.

But, watch the tape. Smith broke several school records at Alabama this season, all while cementing his status as a first-round pick. While he may not 'wow' you with his size, he's got plenty of tools to translate to the next level. His slip stops here at No. 12, where he finds a home in Philadelphia and gets the chance to reunite with his old Alabama teammate, Jalen Hurts.

The Chargers have a franchise QB in Justin Herbert. Now it's time to protect their investment. And, with Northwestern product Rashawn Slater -- a player who has quickly risen up draft boards and warrants a top-10, if not top-5 pick -- available at No. 13, Los Angeles runs to the table to get this pick in.

The Vikings have plenty of needs on both sides of the ball, but perhaps edge rusher is the biggest of them all. With Michigan's Kwity Paye still available -- whom many draft experts consider the best edge rusher in the draft -- the choice is simple for Minnesota.

A quarterback is not out of the question for the Panthers, even after trading for Sam Darnold and moving on from Teddy Bridgewater, but it makes the team's need at the position not as high as it once was. This is why after the first four QBs were gone by their pick at No. 8, Carolina found a trade partner in QB-needy New England and moved back to No. 15.

So, the Panthers address another need, offensive line, and take Virginia Tech's Christian Darrisaw here. The Hokie star is extremely athletic and would be an instant upgrade to the team's offensive line.

The son of former Saints wide receiver Joe Horn, Jaycee Horn has established himself as one of the best defensive backs in the 2021 class. Cornerback is a need for the Cardinals this offseason, especially with Patrick Peterson headed to Minnesota after a decade with the franchise.

There has been no player more closely linked to Washington during the draft process than Notre Dame's Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. The linebacker has the perfect skill set for what Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio want to run on defense.

In Owusu-Koramoah, WFT gets a linebacker who has the speed to play all over the field and can even play safety if needed, too. The Notre Dame product's versatility would be a great addition to Washington, an already elite defense that could use an upgrade at JOK's specific position.

With Virginia Tech's Caleb Farley slipping -- something that likely has to do with the fact that he didn't play in 2020 and recently had back surgery -- the Bears find a gem that falls into their laps at No. 20. If Farley can return to his normal self he was pre-injury, the Bears get arguably the steal of the first round here and a direct replacement for Kyle Fuller.

By taking 6-foot-6, 320-pound Oklahoma State tackle Teven Jenkins, the Colts get a lineman who can start right away and has the size to develop into one of the NFL's better tackles.

Enter Greg Newsome II, a defensive back that is quickly rising up draft boards. The Northwestern product has a well-rounded skill set and just ran sub-4.4 during his Pro Day this past week. The Titans should get a Day 1 starter in Newsome here.

Another rising prospect is Florida wideout Kadarius Toney, one of the most explosive players in the country at that position who didn't garner as much attention as he deserved nationally. Make no mistake about it, though, Toney is a first-round talent himself, and a solid week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile solidified that.

The Ravens need to get Lamar Jackson another weapon but don't seem too desperate to do so in free agency. So, two years after taking Marquise "Hollywood" Brown in the first round, Baltimore takes another wideout in Toney, who can lineup all over the field and be a matchup nightmare for any defense.

One of the fastest rising prospects over the past couple of weeks is Florida State cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. A former five-star recruit was a standout at Florida State and could easily squeak into the first round, especially to a team like New Orleans that desperately needs a cornerback to pair opposite of Marcus Lattimore.

Once again, Green Bay refused to spend in free agency, even with several top wideout options available on the open market. So, the Packers are still looking hard to find that perfect No. 2 wideout opposite Davante Adams to get for Aaron Rodgers.

Green Bay finally addresses that need by selecting Minnesota standout Rashod Bateman here, a wideout established himself as one of the best in college football since he stepped on campus for the Golden Gophers.

Enter Clemson star Travis Etienne, who's arguably the best running back in the class. In Buffalo, Etienne would be a Day 1 starter, similarly to what Clyde Edwards-Helaire did for Kansas City last season.

After trading away Orlando Brown Jr. to Kansas City, Baltimore has a need to fill at tackle. They've brought in multiple free agents for visits, but where they will find Brown's true replacement is in the draft. With Texas tackle Samuel Cosmi still on the board, the Ravens fill the need with their second pick in the first round.

In 2020, the Buccaneers hit a home run with Antonie Winfield Jr. in the second round. The safety played a major role in Tampa Bay's Super Bowl run.

The 2021 safety class has not been praised that highly, but TCU's Trevon Moehrig is an absolute stud. Moehrig can play as the lone single-high safety and has an excellent range to cover from sideline to sideline. He'd be a perfect fit in Tampa and make a great defense even better.
