Chase Young's mom had thoughts about his big game vs. 49ers

Plenty of people dissect Chase Young's game each week, but his toughest critic may be his mother.

She's a driving force in his determination to succeed and not look "like a sucker" in front of her, and the rookie defensive end only received a C+ grade from her after his first seven games.

Following Young's huge performance against the 49ers on Sunday, his postgame chat with his mom spilled over into his media session, when he brought his phone to the podium with her still on it. So, the right thing to do was to ask what she thought of her son's performance.

Like many others, she was filled with joy and emotion.

“Oh my gosh, I’m just worn out," Young's mom, Carla, said. "This game was just so outstanding I couldn’t even believe it. I was in shock.”

She provided some additional analysis as well about Young's fumble recovery for a touchdown. Watching the ball, she was glad her son had more than just grabbing the football on his mind.

“He knows how to pick that ball up and not fall on it, and he got it and kept trucking," Carla Young said.

Even though she always pushes her son to be better, it would be a challenge for her to find something to nitpick about the performance on Sunday. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft recorded a sack, forced fumble and touchdown in just 60 minutes of play. One can't do much better than that.

Chase Young himself was blown away by the performance. Just working as hard as he can on every play, he was thankful that the fortune was in his favor against San Francisco.

“I’m at a loss for words," Young said. "I was out there playing ball, man, and good things happened for me today."
