Somehow, even after losing their starting quarterback and beginning the season 2-6, the Washington Football Team is in control of its playoff destiny.
Ron Rivera’s squad picked up its third straight win by hanging on against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football in Week 12. Washington’s defense limited Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson until the final minute when he threw a touchdown pass with the potential to tie the game on a two-point conversion. Kendall Fuller stepped up and picked off the ensuing conversion attempt to help seal a 17-15 Washington triumph in primetime.
The win brought Washington to 5-6 on the season and put the team in the No. 7 slot in the NFC. Though there are four 5-6 teams in the conference -- not to mention two 5-7 teams -- Washington currently holds the tiebreaker thanks to a 5-2 conference record.
While Washington is 5-2 against NFC foes, it is winless in its four games against AFC opponents. On Sunday, the team will get one last shot to pick up an out-of-conference victory.
Washington’s Week 13 matchup takes the team to Sin City for a battle against the Las Vegas Raiders, a team that has endured a roller-coaster season on and off the field. The Raiders are 6-5 on the year and snapped a three-game skid with an overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
Can Washington earn a fourth straight victory on Sunday, or will the team leave Las Vegas with a loss?
