Matt Ioannidis suffered a torn bicep in Washington’s loss to Cleveland and could be out for the remainder of the season, head coach Ron Rivera confirmed on SiriusXM radio on Monday. The news was first reported by Team 980’s Kevin Sheehan.
Ioannidis left Washington’s game in the first quarter and the team immediately announced he would not return. Later that afternoon the defensive tackle was shown on the sideline with his arm in a sling.
A fifth-round pick in 2016, Ioannidis already logged 1.5 sacks to go with a tackle for loss in just two games this season. He’s one of the best interior pass rushers in the NFL and a key contributor to Washington’s vaunted defensive line.
With Ioannidis out, Washington will need to rely more on Tim Settle to go with Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen.
