Headdresses, face paint banned from FedEx Field

Native American-inspired ceremonial headdresses and/or face paint will be prohibited at FedEx Field this season when the Washington Football Team welcomes fans back to the stadium according to new guidelines announced by the organization on Wednesday.

The stadium guidelines also include a recommendation, but not a mandate, for individuals not vaccinated against COVID-19 to wear a mask and make it optional for those who are vaccinated to wear a mask. Those regulations, as the team notes, may be updated according to local ordinances and policies.

The decision to ban Native American-inspired headdresses and/or face paint comes a little more than a year after the team announced it was dropping its longtime team nickname.

"The team is excited to welcome fans back for the 2021 season, and places the highest priority on the safety of its fans, employees, coaching staff, and players," the team said in a press release. "These policies will help to provide a safe and enjoyable gameday experience, and the best possible fan experience, for all guests at FedExField."
