Report: Washington less optimistic sore Alex Smith plays

Football Team

Washington quarterback Alex Smith was sore Saturday, one day after his first full practice since injuring his calf, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported. As a result, the team's optimism about his availability for Sunday's game against the Panthers has lessened since Friday's practice.

Smith is officially listed as questionable for the game and will likely be a game-time decision prior to the 4:05 p.m. kickoff. He still has a chance to play, according to the report, but the team will check on him Sunday morning.

If Smith is unable to go, Dwayne Haskins will be available for the team after last week's uneven start against the Seahawks and the ensuing week of turmoil. However, Haskins is fully healthy and practiced in full this week.

Smith is just one of a few injury concerns for Washington, as running back Antonio Gibson's return from a toe injury remains up the air and wide receiver Terry McLaurin is doubtful with an ankle injury.
