Rivera apologized for Bostic hit: 'That’s not the way his team plays'

After a blatant cheap shot Sunday on Dallas quarterback Andy Dalton, Washington linebacker Jon Bostic was ejected from the game.

The hit was dirty, and obvious, and dangerous. And Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera wanted nothing to do with it.

"Coach Rivera told me that he sought out Mike McCarthy…to apologize for that hit. He said that he wanted McCarthy to know that that’s not the way his team plays," Mike Florio reported on Football Night in America.

Florio also reported that Rivera reprimanded Bostic for the hit.

"Rivera said he also went to Jon Bostic and said, ‘You’re a veteran. You should know better than to apply a hit like that.’”

It's almost a certainty that Bostic will be fined for the hit, and a suspension certainly seems possible. A seven-year veteran in his second season with Washington, Bostic does not have a reputation for dirty play and the hit seemed out of character. Even as an obvious mistake, it was way over the line.
