Twitter has field day as Washington's defensive front dominates Wentz

The Washington Football Team's defensive front entered the 2020 season with lofty expectations.

In Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, they lived up to the hype. Washington sacked Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz eight times on Sunday, as the Burgundy and Gold rode the dominant play of their defensive line to the team's first victory in the Ron Rivera era.

The sacks were spread out nicely among Washington's defensive front, too. Veteran Ryan Kerrigan led the way with two, with the latter the 92nd sack of his career -- moving past Dexter Manley for first on the team's record list.

Rookie Chase Young shined in his debut, notching 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Matt Ioannidis had 1.5 sacks as well. Montez Sweat and Jon Bostic each notched one sack, while Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne each finished with half a sack.

Washington's impressive defensive play was the talk of Twitter Sunday afternoon, as many enjoyed watching the team's new defense in action, disrupting Wentz all afternoon long.
