VIDEO: Big hole for Washington gets worse after Brandon Scherff injury

Insider

Washington got worked in the first half against the Cardinals, going into halftime down 20-0, and things got worse when right guard Brandon Scherff injured his right knee.

The team announced that Scherff would not return in the second half and veteran Wes Schweitzer would play instead.

Scherff's got hurt on a play where a defensive player rolled up on his leg, and on video, the hit looked very painful.

Washington's offense was largely awful with Scherff in the game, and his absence will be felt in the run and pass game.

Playing this year on a franchise tag, Scherff is guaranteed $15 million and is due for free agency after the season. Washington selected Scherff with the 5th overall pick in 2015. He's made the Pro Bowl three times but has not played a full season since 2016.
