Roullier says Josh Allen showed ‘all the potential in the world’ at Wyoming

Before Washington center Chase Roullier arrived in D.C. in 2017, he played for four years at Wyoming, where he shared a locker room with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen for two seasons. Heading into Buffalo for a Week 3 contest, Roullier gave his former QB due respect.

“I do know Josh. He was a great leader for us at Wyoming, a guy that brought a lot of energy himself and was a great teammate to have,” Roullier said. “I do keep in touch with him just a little bit. He was a great quarterback, great leader, someone who brought a lot of attention to the University of Wyoming where it doesn’t usually have it. That was a lot of fun, it came with a very fun senior year for me, having him back behind me.”

That senior year at Wyoming, 2016, was a tour de force for both Roullier and Allen. Roullier was named first-team All-Mountain West Conference and second-team All-American.

Allen, meanwhile with Roullier snapping to him and blocking for him, would throw for college-highs of over 3,200 yards, 28 touchdowns and a 144.9 passer rating. At Wyoming, Roullier saw in Allen what many NFL fans would see in him two years later.

“You can’t deny his arm strength, you can’t deny his athletic ability and I think he had such great abilities there that he was really able to focus on the things that he needed to work on [at Wyoming], and I think he’s done a great job with that,” Roullier said. “He had all the potential in the world back in Wyoming and, more than just potential, he showed it out there, especially my senior year and his next year after that. He did a great job, and I think he’s just gonna continue to get better.”

Roullier and Allen have faced off in the NFL one time since they both got drafted. Buffalo edged Washington at home 24-9 in Week 9 of the 2019 season. Allen threw for 160 yards (off just 20 attempts) and one passing touchdown to go along with a rushing TD. Sunday will be only the second time in both Roullier’s and Allen’s careers in which they’ll face each other on the gridiron.
