The Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, home to private schools across D.C., Maryland and Virginia, is expected to announce the postponement of its fall sports season until February, sources tell NBC Sports Washington.

According to multiple individuals familiar with the situation, WCAC presidents have decided to shift their athletic calendar in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

News of the move comes on the same day the Virginia High School League announced its plan to postpone traditional winter sports to December, followed by fall sports in February going into the spring to follow a model initially laid out by the District of Colombia State Athletic Association.

The IAC and MAC, two other private school conferences in the area, have announced similar plans. The Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association has yet to make formal adjustments to its athletic calendar.

According to sources, there are discussions of multiple teams throughout the DMV forming non-sanctioned 7-on-7 leagues and holding big man competitions in the fall, in the lieu of a traditional season.
