Former T.C. Williams High School student-athlete Montrell Lucas, 18, was shot and killed on Tuesday in Northeast D.C. His death came just one day after he and his fellow classmates graduated from the Alexandria, Va., high school.

According to NBC 4, at this time police have announced no motive for the murder and have made no arrests. A 28-year-old male identified as Jakeem Chandler was also killed in the shooting.

Lucas was considered a gifted athlete and excelled on the football field and basketball court for T.C. Williams. But, beyond sports, many friends have shared stories about his tremendous character and ability to always treat others with kindness.

“Everyone just respected him just because of the way he treated everybody," former classmate Danny Weir told NBC 4. "He earned the respect of everybody because of the way he was so kind and caring.”

Lucas' plans following graduation were unknown due to the coronavirus pandemic. A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family with funeral and service costs and honor the legacy Lucas left behind.

“He’s a beautiful, kind, loving, funny, generous, caring person and that’s how he needs to be remembered," Weir said.
