For decades, the DMV has been a hotbed for basketball talent. From Kevin Durant to Victor Oladipo to Rebekkah Brunson, the region has been home to some of the world's best basketball players, and that doesn't look to end anytime soon. So, who's next? Throughout the week, NBC Sports Washington will answer that question, taking look at the next crop of players creating a buzz in the DMV.

Kiki Rice

Class: 2022

Position: Point Guard

School: Sidwell Friends

Kiki Rice has the skillset to do it all on the basketball court. She initiates the offense, is a dynamic passer, can score from anywhere on the floor and is one of the most athletic girls in the country. Rice is a fearless slasher, great defender and a flat-out winner.

Saylor Poffenbarger

Class: 2021

Position: Guard

School: Middletown

Saylor Poffenbarger is one of the top recruits in the nation. With superior size and length, Poffenbarger can shoot over defenders or drive through them. A long-range sharpshooter, Poffenbarger is lethal behind the arc. Poffenbarger is also an adequate ball-handler who is effective at drawing attention to herself before setting up teammates for easy scoring opportunities.

Lee Volker

Class: 2021

Position: Guard

 

School: Paul VI

Lee Volker epitomizes what it means to be a floor general. The Panther is a natural-born leader who helps push herself and her teammates to heights of success. Volker displays an ability to score the ball in a myriad of ways -- whether showing off her midrange game or finishing at the rack, she finds a means to put the ball in the hoop.

Kayla Thomas

Class: 2021

Position: Post

School: Riverdale Baptist

Kayla Thomas can dominate the game from the post. She uses her strength and physicality to secure the paint and protect the rim on defense. She uses stellar footwork, good hands and soft touch around the rim to score the ball on offense.

Jadyn Donovan

Class: 2023

Position: Guard

School: Sidwell Friends

Jadyn Donovan is dripping in skill and athleticism. She excels in transition, as she is capable of adequately leading the break or finishing at the rim. She has shown an ability to make outside shots and is one of the top slashers in the DMV. On defense, her length and quickness allow her to protect the rim. She is one of the best shot blockers in the country.

Laila Jewett

Class: 2021

Position: Guard

School: Bishop Ireton

Laila Jewett is an efficient scorer. She can get her own shot off the bounce and her mid-range pull up jumper is lethal. Jewett facilitates the offense for her team. The Central Florida commit does whatever is necessary to win. 

Kennedy Fauntleroy

Class: 2022

Position: Point Guard

School: Rock Creek Christian

Kennedy Fauntleroy is a playmaker extraordinaire. She finds ways to get into the lane and create scoring opportunities for herself and others. She displays cat-like quickness and an uncanny handle; she has a great feel for the game. Fauntleroy manages the pace of the game well; she knows when to push the ball and when to run offense.

Gia Cooke

Class: 2022

Position: Point Guard

School: Bishop McNamara

Last season, Cooke showed glimpses of greatness, albeit in limited opportunities on the court. A dynamic scorer, she plays fast, pushes tempo and looks for her own shot. She can create for others and is at her best when getting into the lane and attacking the opposition.

Brianna Scott

Class: 2021

Position: Wing

School: South Lakes

Brianna Scott is a must-see student athlete. The 6-foot-3 wing can put the ball on the floor and create for herself as well as her teammates. She is a supreme rebounder who uses her size and athleticism to help control the paint.

 

Jalyn Brown

Class: 2022

Position: Wing

School: Riverdale Baptist

Jalyn Brown has versatility to spare. The 6-foot wing can play any position on the floor. She has the quickness to defend the perimeter and the length to protect the rim. Her athleticism makes her a weapon in transition where she has become an expert at scoring around the rim.
