Hornets 99-96 in OT over Mavs in Dirk's 1st start

DALLAS (AP) Eric Gordon completed a three-point play with 4.7 seconds left in overtime and the New Orleans Hornets won 99-96 Saturday night at Dallas to spoil the Mavericks' first game this season with Dirk Nowitzki in the starting lineup.

After a timeout, O.J. Mayo was beyond the 3-point line when Gordon went up in the air and by him. Gordon's foot made contact with the ball, knocking it loose. Instead of a foul, officials called it a kicked ball. Dallas got one more chance but Vince Carter's shot from the right corner ricocheted off the rim.

Nowitzki had a team-high 20 points in 34 minutes, his most extensive action this season. He missed a free throw with 18 seconds left in regulation that would have put the Mavericks ahead by a point.

New Orleans' Greivis Vasquez had 15 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, but missed a final shot.

Redskins are releasing Jordan Reed after six eventful seasons

Redskins are releasing Jordan Reed after six eventful seasons

Jordan Reed and the Redskins are parting ways after six seasons, the team announced on Thursday.

The 29-year-old tight end has been talked about a lot lately, as questions swirled about his health. This past weekend, Ron Rivera said that Reed was still in the concussion protocol thanks to a hit he suffered in August 2019. Then, on Wednesday, he reportedly cleared that protocol.

The move creates an additional $8.5 million in cap space for the Redskins, as Reed joins Josh Norman and Paul Richardson as some high-profile names to be released by the team's new leadership. Washington now has the sixth-most cap space in the NFL with free agency coming up next month.

Reed's career with the Burgundy and Gold featured both promise and problems. In 2015 and 2016, he caught a combined 17 touchdowns. Yet he never suited up for a full 16-game schedule, as injuries ultimately prevented him from realizing his full ability.

Now, the question becomes what Reed will do next. Some, like London Fletcher, believes Reed should retire, considering the numerous concussions he suffered as a pro. But he apparently wants to still play, and now, thanks to the release from the Redskins, he's able to try and make that happen.

Report: Orioles and Mets will play at Naval Academy on March 24

Report: Orioles and Mets will play at Naval Academy on March 24

According to a report from The Washington Post, the Orioles will play the Mets at the Naval Academy on March 24, just two days before Opening Day.

The game will take place at Max Bishop Stadium at 2 p.m. and will be on the Orioles Radio Network and 105.7 The Fan. The two teams will end spring training in Florida a day before with a final game.

It will be the first game at the Naval Academy since April 1, 2017, when the Nationals played the Red Sox and just the second since 1987. There have been 12 total exhibition games.

But according to the Post article, there’s more behind the scenes.

The Orioles hold territorial rights, according to Major League Baseball, to Anne Arunel County — where Annapolis and the Naval Academy are located. Meaning, the Orioles allowed the Nationals to play the Red Sox in 2017 but declined any future games from happening.

Tickets will not be made available to the public, but, according to Jake Russell, "select Orioles season-ticket holders will have an opportunity to purchase a limited number of tickets.”

The Orioles and the Naval Academy have a “multi-dimensional” partnership together, one that includes various events and programs for the Orioles to honor the Naval Academy.
