FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) New York Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson suffered a concussion and injured a knee during the team's loss to San Diego on Sunday, and his status for the season finale at Buffalo is uncertain.
Wilkerson played every defensive snap against the Chargers, and the team said he showed no symptoms of a concussion until after the game, and was tested. He'll continue to undergo tests this week, but did not practice Wednesday.
``It was kind of news to me he has a concussion,'' Ryan said. ``Hopefully, he'll be able to play.''
Wilkerson, the Jets' first-round pick out of Temple last year, was hurt near the end of the 27-17 loss. He got up slowly after one play in the second half and waved off trainers, but it's uncertain if that was when either injury occurred.
Wilkerson has been of the Jets' best performers on defense with 85 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles. Despite the Jets (6-9) being out of the playoff race, Ryan is hoping to have Wilkerson against the Bills.
``That would be a big concern because Mo's one of the best interior lineman in the league,'' Ryan said. ``I'd like for Mo to play, but I am concerned.''
Quarterback Greg McElroy suffered an abdominal injury against San Diego, likely the result of being sacked 11 times. But, he was a full participant in practice and is expected to make his second NFL start Sunday.
``It's a little sore, but that's to be expected,'' McElroy said, calling it a mild strain. ``It's to be expected having played my first full game in a few years. It's nothing out of the ordinary.''
Wide receiver Braylon Edwards (hamstring, knee), tight end Dustin Keller (ankle), linebacker Bryan Thomas (pectoral), wide receiver Chaz Schilens (knee) and cornerbacks Aaron Berry (hamstring) and Ellis Lankster (concussion) all did not practice.
