Maryland true freshman quarterback Gage Shaffer has been suspended by the program for the final two games of the season for a violation of the student-athlete code of conduct, CSN has confirmed.
He is the second player to be suspended in the past week. Junior running back Wes Brown was suspended indefinitely for the same reason on Monday.
Matt Zenitz of AL.com was the first to report the news.
Shaffer has showed promise for Maryland as a scout team player during his freshman season. At 6-7, he has elite size for the position and won Scout Team Player of the Week honors prior to Maryland's Week 2 game against Bowling Green.
On signing day this year, former Maryland head coach Randy Edsall compared Shaffer to former Connecticut quarterback Dan Orlovsky -- a signal caller with size and athleticism who has now played a decade in the NFL.
