On a podcast published earlier this month, Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren welcomed then-Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan. She had one simple request.
“There’s a game you have on Feb. 13 that you have to win. I hate to put this pressure on you. It’s against Maryland and my husband went to Maryland,” she said. “You don’t have any choice. You have to win that one. If you win nothing else, beat Maryland, OK? Just for me. I can’t stand his gloating. It makes me sick, his gloating. So circle that one.”
In classic Ryan fashion, he answered, “Alright, I’ll do that for you.”
But Ryan will not get the chance to do so, announcing this week that he would retire -- effective immediately -- leaving that Feb. 13 date on the table.
Van Susteren tweeted Wednesday her reaction to his retirement.
Why did Coach Bo Ryan retire? He promised me he would beat Maryland in Feb...?????
