Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon applauded his seniors on Wednesday, with Senior Day taking place on Thursday in College Park.
Here are his comments on the four seniors.
Trevor Anzmann, Guard
“Hadn’t been with us long, but he’s had a tremendous year. Very vocal, found his niche within the team and done a terrific job. Doing a great job with the scout team and getting our guys prepared before games. Just a wonderful kid, going to be very successful in life.”
Rasheed Sulaimon, Guard
"He’s had an unbelievably great year. I think he should be First Team All-Defense in the Big Ten, if not Player of the Year. He’s really defended well defensively, been a great leader, been great for Melo [Trimble], been great for all of us and has helped us get where we are and be successful and keep this thing going at a high level, so it’s been a great year for Rasheed. Glad he was here."
Varun Ram, Guard
"Varun, only guy in history to have two Senior Days. Varun’s had another great year. Tremendous in practice, high energy, makes Melo better. He’s a special kid and he’s going to do great things in life off the basketball court. He’s been fun to coach."
Jake Layman, Forward
"Jake’s been here, obviously, with me from the beginning -- or second year. He’s had an unbelievable year. He’s had a great career. He’s won a lot of games. He’s been loyal to me and he’s been loyal to the program. He’s on pace to graduate. When he was a freshman, I didn’t think there was any way we could get that done, so he’s going to graduate here in May and I think he’s playing his way maybe into the first round of the NBA Draft. He’s really playing well right now."
