When does the Major League Baseball season begin?

Major League Baseball will kick off its season July 23 after a three-month postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Teams are currently taking part in the second rendition of spring training or “Summer Camp,” which will last for about three weeks until the season begins. On Opening Day, MLB will showcase two games: the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. the San Francisco Giants and the Nationals vs. the New York Yankees. The Nationals will host a three-game series to open the season against the current favorites to win the 2020 World Series.

How many games will be played this season?

Rather than the normal 162-game season, each team will play 60 games over the course of 66 days. The regular season will conclude on Sept. 27, and the postseason will begin in October as usual. The playoffs will be played normally with five teams from each league after the players’ union and MLB could not come to an agreement on an alternative postseason format.

Which teams will the Nationals play this season?

The Nationals will face nine different teams during their shortened season. They will play 10 games against each of their NL East Division rivals: the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies. The team will also play six games against their neighbors: the Baltimore Orioles. Finally, the remaining 14 games will be played against the other four teams in the AL East: the Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. The Nationals season-opener against the Yankees will be the first time in history they began the season with an American League opponent. They will conclude their regular season with a four-game series with the Mets.
